Alice Boyd: The South London Musician Inspiring Sustainability Through Sound

· · Comments

We recently invited Alice Boyd, a South London-based musician, sound artist, and audio producer to come and try on a few early spring 2025 Lowie pieces.  Her haunting sounds combines folk-inspired harmonies with ambient electronic textures, aiming to connect humans with nature, often uncovering the hidden and overlooked sounds in our environment.

Lowie founder Bronwyn first had the pleasure of discovering Alice’s music at her new EP launch gig in the idyllic Brockwell Park Community Gardens, near our home in Herne Hill. Her breathtaking performance of her EP Cloud Walking, perfectly reflected the serenity of the natural surroundings and immediately struck a chord (get it!) with us. Inspired by her unique vision, we took Alice back to Brockwell Park, combining her creativity with our sustainable designs in a celebration of art, fashion, and nature.

Alice’s career has seen many milestones, including an artist residency at the Eden Project, where she created her debut EP, From The Understory. This project, inspired by the world’s largest indoor rainforest, received critical acclaim and airplay on BBC Radio 3, 4, and 6. She has performed in venues ranging from the Eden Project’s Rainforest Biome to the Barbican Conservatory, as well as outdoor spaces like mountain landscapes, ancient woodlands, and other community hubs in South London.

Alice’s passion for nature extends to her innovative field recording projects, such as Shifting Soundscapes for BBC Radio 4, where she documented the evolving sounds of the environment. She also produces the podcast As the Season Turns and delivered a TEDx talk on how listening can reconnect us with the natural world.

Alice Boyd’s work is a heartfelt exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, brought to life through her innovative music and sound art. Her collaboration with Lowie has been an inspiring experience, blending her creative vision with our commitment to sustainable fashion. Together, we’ve celebrated the beauty of the natural world and the importance of mindful, artistic expression.
