Meet the Maker
Hannah and I are back in the Lowie studio this week after an exciting trip to China, where we visited some of our suppliers. It has always been important to Lowie to ensure that we maintain a close bond with the people that produce our garments. We go and visit once a year to make sure our factories have good working conditions, happy workers and produce beautiful quality garments. We thought we would update you on some of the highlights from our trip, and let you know a little more about the people that make some of our Lowie clothing.
One of our
more interesting visits was to Mr Chen, who does all of Lowie’s printing at his
small factory in Shenzhen. His factory employs 12 people using 7 digital
machines and has been running for 9 years. They use high quality Epsom printers
and European standard dyes, printing for top designer brands including 3.1
Phillip Lim and Alexander McQueen. Their machines can each print around 300m
per day.
Here is
Lowie’s Studio Manager Hannah with Lina Lee, who owns and runs the cut and
sew factory that produces most of Lowie’s sewn garments. Lina has expanded and
has just moved to a new premises, now employing up to 45 cutters, sewers and
finishers. Lina is an expert in high-end production techniques and always
teaches us a thing or two when we visit her.
We were
also fortunate enough to meet up with Yuqing, a former intern who helped us
negotiate the hectic fabric shops and markets in GuangZhou while we were there.
Thanks Yuqing…. We couldn’t have done it without you!
As well
as visiting the Lowie suppliers, we made sure we got to treat ourselves to some
of the amazing food on offer. This is Hannah and I at a Korean cook your own
BBQ!
We feel that this close
relationship with our producers and suppliers is just one of the things that
sets Lowie apart from other brands, and it is something we are very proud of.
